The Hardee's Virginia Beach FunkFest Beach Party is the heart and soul of this weekend event, featuring music generated over the years by influential legends such as James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, George Clinton, and The Ohio Players. Funk is an American musical style that originated in the mid-to late-1960’s when African-American musicians blended soul music, soulful jazz, and R&B into a rhythmic, danceable new form of music. Funk brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground. Funk music was a major influence on the development of 1970’s disco music, and has even impacted house music and hip-hop.

This event is free and open to the public. We will be offering preferred-viewing two-day passes through Ticketmaster.

The Hardee's Virginia Beach FunkFest Beach Party will take place on a stage on the beach at 24th Street.

Food, merchandise, and dance contests all contribute to a festive, “funky” vibe!

Midnight Star

Formed at Kentucky State University in 1976, Midnight Star began as a self-contained party band in the P-Funk/ Earth Wind & Fire mode, and quickly earned a strong live reputation throughout the world. A 1978 New York City showcase inspired Solar Records chief Dick Griffey to sign the group, and early 80’s albums like The Beginning, Standing Together, and Victory gave Midnight Star a chance to hone their chops. The group’s passion and love of the music and their strong desire to keep their fans ultimately satisfied, has shown up in Platinum and Gold as they’ve poured out streams of top 10 and number 1 hits. Midnight Star broke into the 90’s with the smash “Do It (One More Time)” from their Work it Out CD which also featured the sultry ballad “Red Roses.”

The Gap Experience

The gospel, funk, rock, and country sound influences combined with the stage presence that gave birth to the legendary group “The Gap Band” flows through Gap Experience founding members. The names recognized by the Gap Band nation -- Jimi Macon, Oliver Scott, Raymond Calhoun, Billy Young, Roman Johnson and Terry Scott unite to come to the stage once again.  With them comes the funk…..the original and unique sound of the music adored by The Gap Band fans. The core group who wrote, recorded and toured the world as The Gap Band are bringing the original rhythm and funk back!  Gap Experience members are original band members who toured the world and blazed the charts with amazing hits like Outstanding, Burn Rubber On Me, You Dropped a Bomb On Me, Early In The Morning, Yearning For Your Love and All of My Love.
