For two days, Virginia Beach celebrates the sights and sounds of the Latin experience. Hardee’s Latin Fest, Friday-Saturday, June 26-27, 2015, possesses the key ingredients of good food, family participation, and first-rate Latin music.

National performers electrify the diverse audience with high-energy tunes that move the crowd to dance under the stars. Local and regional Latin acts take the stage and unite festival-goers with the rhythms of Salsa, Merengue, and Jazz.  Headline performances will take place on a giant stage on the beach at 24th Street.

Kinito Méndez, a Merengue singer, started his career in 1988 as one of the co-founders of the popular Merengue band La Cocoband.  Mendez wrote and arranged many of La Cocoband's hit songs including "La Manito," "El Boche," "La Seca," "El Cacu," and "Mujer Malvada."  With the success of La Cocoband Mendez decided to leave and start his own project in early 1992 along with Bobby Rafael.  With new band Rokabanda Mendez recorded three hit albums.  In 1995 Mendez decided to go solo and released his much anticipated solo album "El Hombre Merengue," which sold 1.5 million copies, a rare feat for a tropical artist.  Kinito Mendez will take the stage Friday, June 26, from 9:15pm-10:45pm.

Ismael Miranda

Ismael Miranda, performing from 9:15pm-10:45pm on Saturday, June 27, has been one of Puerto Rican salsa’s best singers over the past 40 years. In 1967, when Miranda was 17 years old, he made his recording debut with the song “Let’s Ball” with Joey Pastrana and had his first “hit” with “Rumbon Melon.”  He created such a good impression on bandleader Larry Harlow that he was hired as Larry’s lead singer. That same year Miranda and Harlow co-authored “El Exigente” (“The Demanding”), set to the rhythm of the Latin Boogaloo craze of the time. During the 1970s, he continued to have more hits with songs like “Lupe, Lupe,” “Señor Sereno,” and many others.

Additional activities - in the 24th Street Park - include the Zumba fitness 4-hour marathon on Saturday, June 27, beginning at 8:00am.  Zumba fitness is the Latin-inspired, easy-to-follow calorie-burning party!  Meet some of the area’s best instructors.  Participate for one hour or all four!

Vendors and cultural activities in the park will round out the festival.

The Hardee’s Latin Fest, presented by Selecta 1050AM, is a FREE event.
